I decided that I was going to run home from work tonight. It's a little over 5 miles from my office to my apartment. It sounded like a good idea ... Until I got out there and hit the pavement!! The sidewalks were crammed with people either sightseeing, using their phones, or just walking aimlessly. Then there were the tourists who stop in front of every store and point (I got jabbed a few times) and take pictures. So I decided to run in the street. That didn't work out too well either. The yellow cabs will just run you down, other drivers don't seem to care that you're there and then there are the pedicabs - those things are horrible! I was constantly zigzagging between the sidewalks and streets (and horses by Central Park). The other problem was the lights - I had to keep waiting for green lights, but I didn't want to come to a complete stop each time, so I would jog in place, pace back and forth or just cross against the light and hope for the best!!
Once I got to the bridge (the awful dreaded 59th street bridge) I had room to run, but that hill is STEEP!! I also discovered the blister that I now have on my inner left foot. I tried to avoid my foot hitting so it wouldn't rub as much, but that just caused more pain on the outside of my foot. I opted for the rubbing on the blister. While on the bridge, I remembered what Stacy taught me and I leaned forward an stayed on my toes. I was huffing and puffing but I made it across to Queens. These sidewalks were also empty, so I had room to run. I was finally in the home stretch ... The last mile ... And then I was home. 1 hour and 17 minutes later I was taking my sneakers off in the elevator!!! I wasn't doing this run so much for time, as for distance ... And I did it!!!!
